Half term is almost upon us and the new Annual Review Magazines will be available to all.  This year’s is a souvenir edition featuring the Chaplins, anniversary celebrations with children, Vines, parents and pupils and covering an amazing range of activities enjoyed by the children over the past seventy years, with focus on the past year.  If you are a Vinelines reader and not on our reading list, you can request a copy of the school magazine through the school office.

Following last week’s grandparents’ Day I have received a number of charming thank you cards from our visitors.  They were “bowled over” by their visit; enjoyed seeing the children in class; were amazed by the facilities and by the good manners of the children.  Grandparents have commended the staff for their energy and dedication to teaching and learning and we in turn thank our grandparents for their generous support of Vinehall families.

There was a wonderful Subscription Concert on Saturday evening in our theatre featuring the Allegri String Quartet and it was good to see plenty of Vinehall parents and even some pupils there for a little culture.

This week, the rain poured on Year 8 as they visited Battle and Pevensey on their history field trip.  Many thanks to the Mannion family for providing a refreshment stop!

The Form shield is to be presented weekly as usual, alongside special certificates for the top scoring junior form and senior form.  Overall winners so far:

WEEK ONE   3E
WEEK TWO  3D
WEK THREE  3E
WEEK FOUR  6H

Merit badge winners will also receive a certificate for their Records of Achievement.  Good Copy Teas began this week in the Prep School.  These are for individual pupils who amass 15 good copies (or multiples of fifteen).  Well done to this week’s special tea winners!

On Saturday, I will show the school just three of Aaron Lam’s many badminton trophies.  He is now the proud winner of the U/12 Sussex Boys’ Singles trophy.  Well done, Aaron.

There were parents evenings for Year 3 and Pre-Prep parents this week and a Foundation reception to inform new and current parents of the progress and work of our Vinehall Foundation.  There is another opportunity for an update on Saturday morning at 11 am.

Year 7 pupils have been preparing for their science adventure in the Isle of Wight this weekend and there has been a full programme of sporting events (see results below).  This Saturday, we welcome Fr Andrew Perry back to Saturday morning assembly and we hope that parents will join us for that and for coffee afterwards.  Parents are also welcome to join our Sunday Service with Fr John in the Children’s Chapel at 10 am.

We hope that parents with children in Years 3,4 and 5 will join us on Wednesday morning, 15th October, for a Junior Celebration Assembly in the theatre at 8.20 am.

There will be individual photos for Prep School children on Tuesday next week (wearing white shirts, please) and OPRO will visit to fit mouthguards in the Prep School on Thursday next week.  We break up for half term at the end of School on Friday 17th October.

Parent notices:  If you have any pallets or wood for the FoV Bonfire Night bonfire please contact Jackie Perry, Domestic Bursar on 01580 883054.  We can collect if required.

This year's school Christmas card is now available to buy.   A sample of the card will be on view at the Pre-Prep reception area and Prep hall.  An order form is also available at the end of Vinelines.
