The weekend was particularly sociable at Vinehall with Year 6 camping activities and an extra 85 taster boarders accommodated.  There was a super community spirit and a good time was had by all.  Pupils cooked, undertook team challenge marbles games, made camp fires in the woods, cycled off-site and generally indulged in old-fashioned games and activities.

Year 3 pupils visited Batemans this week in connection with history topic work and they behaved very well indeed on their trip.

On Thursday, grandparents joined us for our whole school harvest assembly with Father John and a collection was made for the Seaview Project for the homeless which is linked with the parish of St John the Evangelist at Bexhill.

Jonathan Masterson, Hannah Manton and Tom Bass were awarded merit badges for their support of others in the community and fulfilling the School motto: to do our best for the benefit of others.

Last weekend, Aaron Lam won the U13's Sussex Tournament in Portslade (21-13) and came runners up in the doubles. His sister Amber won the doubles and came runners up in the singles and Adam his brother won the U11's singles and doubles which was a great day for the family!  Hopefully he will be able to bring his trophies into school to show everyone.

Darius Khalesi swam for the County at Southampton on Saturday last week and achieved two personal best times for his breastroke.  Darius brought back a smart certificate.

There was a home swimming gala versus Bodiam Manor this week and out team did us proud with a convincing win.

During the summer Oscar Kotting Macmilan was asked to join a tennis club and a Badminton club but had to decline both offers owing to lack of time. He has also put his table tennis on hold this term because he is so busy with his Vinehall activities and he has been playing football on  Friday nights and matches every Sunday. Oscar plays for a well-established soccer club: Hastings Town Youth team. As his mother says, ‘After all this time they truly do play as a team, knowing where to place a ball on the pitch, and where they all want it - in the back of the net!’

Last year, the team won the league and the cup final, so this year the manager thought that they should travel further afield for some new experiences and tough opposition, So now the team is playing in the Sussex Sunday League. So far, the manager is thrilled with the results. To date they have won 14-0, 6-0, 5-0 and 5-0. Yet to concede a goal in their first four games the team is still flying high, as are the parents!

Every Saturday Toby Clarke, Hamish McAlister, William Wilson and Alexander Everill  play football at Burwash Football Club. Last Saturday they enjoyed and exciting match and many goals were scored. ‘Watch out Chelsea!’

It was Orchestral Day at Lancing this week and a coachload of Vinehall musicians attended for music, tuck shop and school farming experiences!  A good time was had by all.

A group of Year 6 pupils were the first from Vinehall to join a cross sector link project connected to literacy work.  They linked with primary school pupils for scripting work linked to a trip to The Smugglers’ Caves in Hastings.  Other groups will benefit in the future and we hope that these linked projects will prove to be of benefit to the children and teachers in joining together.  The project is financed by East Sussex County Council and The Temple Grove Trust.

The Drum-a-thon cake sale on Monday was very successful and the amount raised so far is £394.40.  Congratulations and thanks to all involved, particularly Mrs Sigsworth, the parents and the percussionists who made this a very successful event.
